We're Going on a Penguin Hunt!

We have written some of our own stories like the Bear and Lion Hunt!  We used a contrasting setting and went searching for a penguin!

We made icy, sparkly settings from collage!

We described each part of the setting using adjectives.

Our settings had igloos, icebergs, seals, snowstorms, and snow caves in them!

We improved the language from the story and added in new adjectives and verbs.  We could then say our story aloud with actions to help us!

Our new outdoor reading summer house!

We are so lucky; on Monday some helpful people came from BT and built us a reading hut in our outdoor space!  They even made drapes and cushions so it is gorgeous and cosy!

Yummy food tasting!

Mr Long came to visit today.  He is a teacher from Fairfield Secondary school.  He brought us different foods from around the world to taste. 

We tasted soda bread from Ireland.  Connor said "It tastes like I have never tried it and I like it!"

Some of us enjoyed it and some of us did not.  We had to rate it on a smiley face chart!

"It doesnt have a normal bread flavour."

We tried feta cheese from Cyprus!  "It is so salty!"

We talked about how important it is to try all sorts of foods.  It makes eating so exciting!

Here we are trying dark chocolate with adde chilli!  Most of us loved it!  "I liked it cuz it was spicey!" 

Our Lion Hunt work

We have done some super duper work based around the Lion Hunt story!

Have a look at what we have done so far...



We created African settings and described them with adjectives.  "The lake is ripply, silvery and splashy!"

 

We created 5 settings using collage: a lake, a desert, a volcano, a swamp and long grass.

We used water colours to paint story maps of the setting.  Here is Miss Jenkins' map.

Here isArij's map- it is far better than Miss Jenkins' map as she has added in adjectives!

We looked at African artefacts and listened to drumming.  We used this to help us imagine we had been to an African village and came up with loads of lovely describing words.  "Maybe it's a village in Sudan?"  said Mohamed.

We continued the story using the language we had learnt ad adding in our own exciting words.  Here is Lily-Rose's writing.

Uzayr used actions to help him remember the story.  He can say the whole story off by heart!

The Olympic Torch visit!!

We had an exciting visitor today!  Charlie Hodge, a sports teacher from John Cabot Academy, came in to show us her Olympic torch and tell us all about when she got to take part in the relay!  


She was nominated by pupils at her school who think she is fantastic.  We got to ask her lots of questions and she told us all about how proud she felt walking along with the flame lit.  She even told us that when each torch bearer had to pass the flame on to the next, it was called 'kissing'!  We thought this was hilarious!

This week...We're Going on a Lion Hunt!

We are really excited about our literacy learning this week!  We will be reading and comparing Michael Rosen's 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' with David Axtell's 'We're Going on a Lion Hunt!'

 

We will be watching Michael Rosen perform his version of the book and trying to make up and perform our own Lion Hunt!  If you want to watch the video at home here is the link.  We think it is FANTASTIC! 

Visit from Mrs Fleet, Florence and Harriet

This afternoon we were lucky enough to have a visit from Mrs Fleet and her daughters Florence and Harriet.  This is what we found out:
Florence is 2. (Sassy)
Harriet is 13 weeks. (Adam)
Florence's birthday is in July, she is nearly 3.  (Raahil)
Harriet's birthday is in March.  (Ruby)
Harriet doesn't have much hair! (Daisy)
Harriet is very small.  (Isabelle)
